"Ghetto Fab" … O_o … Really Amazon?

by glamazini on May 20, 2010 in Beauty & Style,Hair Resources & News,Hair Today, Gone Tomorrow (Fake)

This is the "Ghetto Fab (Brown/Light Brown) Adult" wig sold by a costume company on Amazon.com.

Really Amazon? Really?

I'm usually am pretty laid back about these sorts of things but this is really just dumb…and since this was brought to my attention by my girl Peejay I'm gonna do this post in her style:

  1. Since when is "ghetto fab" a proper product name?
  2. Since when did my hair become a costume?
  3. Are there wigs out there called "honky tonk?" … maybe there are
  4. Why come I like this wig?
  5. Can I say "why come" and not be called "ghetto fab"?
  6. Why is it on sale and why might I buy this sucka?
  7. Does that then, by transitivity, make me "ghetto fab"?
  8. What if I've never lived in a ghetto but I am fabulous, does 1 out of 2 mean I get to own this wig?
  9. Is that look seriously considered "ghetto fab" by our society?
  10. If so, should I change my blog's name to ghettofabazini?
  11. Doesn't that whole get up look like me?
  12. Why does the product description say "Does not include headband, earrings or shirt"
  13. and finally….

continue to pray people

this is too much !!! I cant’ start my day like this. How do you name a product with an insult to a populationt hat you are trying to mimic? This is foolishness.

Wow, I’m offended too because this kind of looks like my hair, but I am definitely not “ghetto”.

Now this just annoys me to no end. The same with people wearing afros as a Halloween costume; like our hair texture is some kind of joke. Your listing is hilarious though, and I like the wig too.

Wow. Are you serious? “Ghetto Fab?” That is shameful! I agree with you…first of all, I agree that the wig is cute, secondly, WHY does something (or almost everything) that could be related to Black hair, Black culture, etc., have to be ghetto??!! This mentality has got to stop! I will keep praying…

Wow!! Ghetto Fab?! Really? I would picture something totally different for ghetto fab… I’m talking a style with fingerwaves, waterfall curls, a french roll, freeze curls, and some weave extension pieces in various colors all in one…Not a wig with soft curls and a head band… Hmmmmmmm!! Love your list of comments :)

i didnt take offense to the name of the wig until i read the blog and comments posted. After reading, i guess i can see how it could be offensive but many black people refer to themselves as ghetto fabulous. I think if you want others to stop making such comments, we have to stop. It is kind of like using the “N” word. They hear us say and think it is okay.
