I was reading this post over at TheCubicleChick.com and decided to write a much needed follow-up post to my original HTC Evo post from 2010 (yes I’m all late and such but let’s pretend like I’m not mmmkay?).
It’s been almost 2 years that I’ve had this particular Android phone, an HTC Evo 4G with Sprint, and I have to say that, if it wasn’t for the issues with battery life, my phone would be perfect!
The pros of this phone are too much to document. For starters it has a huge clear screen, is fast, the camera is good quality, it’s durable, and I have rarely had to pay for an app that I needed. Coming from my beloved Palm Centro, it has been the perfect initial foray into the world or smart phones. I practically do everything on it and can’t imagine life without it.
My contract with Sprint was up on April 1st, and I’m eyeing the Samsung Galaxy S II Epic Touch 4G, but for right now it’s still going to be me and Eva (the name of my Evo #don’tJudge).
But (there’s always a but huh?) …
… the battery life on this phone is HORRIBLE!
When I say horrible I mean hor.rib.BULL. It started out less than desirable and went to O!M!G!
At its worst (2 weeks ago), my phone would not stay on longer than 15 minutes unplugged. Yes you read that correctly … 15 minutes unplugged = phone dead. Since I have insurance, I visited the Sprint store and was told my battery was fine but they ordered me a new one that would take two weeks to arrive. Last week I took it to different Sprint phone (because I am pregnant and need a phone that works when unplugged), and was told that my battery was actually no good and I needed a new one. Since I was given the battery from the self-same Sprint store a month prior, they didn’t have much of a solution for me except to wait on the battery (which hasn’t arrived I might add and it’s been 2 weeks). My husband eventually dug up an OEM battery for me to use in the interim, so for now, my phone works longer than 15 minutes unplugged … for now.
So ultimately what are my thoughts?
I love my Android phone, wish I could afford to upgrade to another Android phone (and/or get a tablet *hee*), but until then, I’ll wait and pray the new battery arrives soon and helps me make it longer with my beloved Evo.
What phone do you have? Are you an Android lover? How’s your battery life?
Oh and check out this great infographic I discovered about smart phone battery saving tips.
Until next time Glam Fam
I wish you
Life, Liberty & The Pursuit of Nappyness,

What Has Your Smart Phone Replaced?

i have the Evo Shift which is the lil sister to Eva (lol). The only difference is mine has a slide keyboard and a smaller screen. The Epic was the original phone that I was going for, but it had sold out everywhere. I charge my phone mostly at night and a single charge lasts throughout the day. That charge will last through texting, words with friends, face-booking, emailing and youtubing all day.
Hope this helps
I think I’ve seen the Shift but never played with it. I used to be tied to a keyboard but now I’m great w/o one so it’s not a necessity. I don’t see the Shift on the Sprint website any more, when did you get it? The screen is smaller right? Is it 4G?
I am new to #teamandroid and I love my phone except for the battery life. I have the Droid X2 and wanted the Droid Maxx, but my wallet said NO! LOL. My battery life is not the best, but I have an app on my phone that my son put on it to kill apps that are running in the background. My phone stays on longer than 15 mins, but the Droid Maxx has a better battery life.
And you could have went to Batteries Plus in Florissant on Lindbergh (they have other stores in St. Louis also) to get another battery for your phone. They sell batteries for everything under the sun! Their batteries seem to last much longer than those by the manufacturer. Waiting for a battery to show up 2 weeks later is just plain C.R.A.Z.Y!!!!
I used to have the app killing app but didn’t notice the difference so I removed it. Actually now I have the ‘App 2 SD Free’ app that immediately helps me move eligible items to the SD card and that has helped. Listen, I have insurance and Sprint needs to give me free stuff. Going to the store in Florissant (thanks for the suggestion though) means I have to *pay* #fail. LOL. Besides, hubby had an OEM battery that I’m using now, but it doesn’t keep a charge as long as the manufacturer battery, which is why we weren’t using it until now.
Oh and it’s been over 2 weeks and I still have no battery. *insert WTH face here*
I have the Samsung galaxy S II. The battery life is excellent….about 8 hrs without having to charge it and alot of free apps and the camera quality is 8 megapixels strong….i love this phone cuz i was really about to set myself up with the Evo 3D….so shout to that Sprint store representative in NW DC!!!
I’ve never gotten the hype on the Evo 3D. Why would I want that? Anyhoo … I’m hoping to jump ship to Samsung soon if the funds will allow. Thanks for commenting!
Oh ok cool, i think i paid 130. That was after trading in my old tmobile samsung vibrant galaxy S….but i just had to have this phone
I have the galaxy S2 also and I love the thang. The battery life is awesome and I’m on this device constantly for apps, facebook, twitter, email, internet, schedule, texting, phone calls, videos etc. I pretty much will use my device before reaching for my laptop for anything. I usually charge my phone in the morning since they say its not good to charge it over night (ruins the battery) and it last me till the next day. I usually have about 39% battery juice left the next morning before I charge it again. I had the Evo Shift too and you can pretty much download the same apps available on the HTC on a Samsung.
Huh wait, what do you mean it’s not good to charge it overnight? What’s the scoop on that little tidbit?
Sorry for late reply. I read that charging over night isn’t good because your phone is done charging within an hour or two depending on how drained it is. After that while your sleeping its still trying to charge which is killing the battery and affecting its ability to hold a charge.
Interesting, never heard that before. Thsnks.
Your welcome.
I am so amazed with Android phone. I always find it so cool and great. The features and applications fascinates me a lot.

I love my phone HOWEVER I am having the worst issues with the battery lately. I got a refurbished one a couple weeks ago and the issues continue. I still love Android but this particular phone is not my friend right now.
I recently upgraded from a Blackberry, of which I have been a user for the last 5 years, to the Samsung Galaxy S II. I LOVE it! I agree with the above poster about the battery life. I normally charge it while getting ready in the morning and have about 30% juice left at the end of the day and this is AFTER using it, being on the web, playing games, etc.
If you have been an EVO user, I think you’d like the Galaxy S II.
I love the Galaxy S II, and if I upgraded that would be my phone of choice now (barring if I got a tablet, then my phone would be downgraded technology wise). I’m still pursuing the free routes. Thanks for commenting!
