If you recall my beloved twisthawk dealie from here and here, then you'll also like this style I wore on another trip a couple months ago. I travelled to Los Angeles, California in July for Black Social Media Weekend. I was also speaking at the Blogging While Brown conference. You can read about that trip here.
As usual, I decided to rock a versatile style on this trip. I find that "base" styles that can be manipulated into other styles are best when traveling because you can switch up your look with a few bobby pins and your imagination.
First up was my usual deep condition "pre-poo" with conditioner (from Costco), olive oil and honey. I sat under the dryer for a while and got good and steamy (see photo no left). The photo on the right was after I was entirely finished washing my hair. This was also the same day I took the infamous "I can't wash the conditioner out" photo.
After re-rinsing my hair (ugh), I started to style. As usual I "sorta" had a style in mind, but really I was just winging it … as usual. HA! I parted out a section on the right side and did 6 small flat twists going straight downward (pictured). Then I wrapped the ends in a huge bantu knot to keep them stretched since I was styling on damp hair.
Once that was done I did the remainder of my hair in medium sized 2 strand twists.
Once everything was completed I banded the twists with random strings, ribbons and satin sashes from around the house. Been doing this for years. I sat under the dryer again like this, then slept with the bands in my hair.
Once I was in LA the styling commenced. Like I said, I love a good base style that I can manipulate and this "winging it" do turned out to be just that. First up was a swanky updo for the cocktail hour in downtown LA.
The following day I did a swooped hump bun dealy with bobby pins and a large Goody ouchless flex barrette .
The day of the conference I did 2 buns on the back of my head.
Then that night I took the twists down for this pinned up "Apolonia-style" twistout updo. KAPOW!
Finally, the next day (and last day of the trip) I just let the naps fly wherever they wanted to. Here I am on Venice beach tryna (and succeedingta) look cute! LOL!
Hope this helped give you yet another idea for a travel style that can transform itself. I wore this twistout in a puff for maybe another week or two so it was definitely the style that kept on giving. I have more trips this year so stay tuned for even more travel style ideas!
Until next time Glam Fam I wish you
