Q:"[I] have got to wear my hair in an afro for a bit as my sides have broken…and a little in the front-AGAIN. [I] think – well I know have worn my hair in extensions for too long [and] pulled tighter. Is it best to plait or band my hair each night? "
A: Hi Rachel, Thanks for writing. To answer your question it's better to do nothing to your hair every night (as in don't over manipulate it by pulling, tugging and combing into braids.) Now cornrows (not tight ones) are a great "protective" style to let your hair rest for a few weeks, but braiding every night and taking down puts unnecessary stress on the hair. If I were you I'd moisturize and leave it alone as much as possible (little to no manipulation, brushing, pulling back etc.). Shoo, I have to do what I'm telling you to 'cause my edges are broken from stress and mismanagement LOL!!!
Hope that helps and Happy Nappying!
