I am doing the Happy Black Woman’s 31 Days to Reset Your Life Challenge. It is a “virtual life coaching experience that will equip you with all the tools you need to reset your life”.
Write Your Ideal Life Narrative
“telling a story about the life you want for yourself”
Alright, here goes:
My husband and I have two homes, one on the U.S. mainland and one in the Virgin Islands. We split our time between these homes, depending on the weather, events, or just how we feel. My home has character and is alive! It is not a “generica” dry wall cookie-cutter construction in a pre-fabbed sub-division. It has beautiful honey colored floors (or large earth colored tiles in the Virgin Islands) with lots of natural light, sky lights, ample open space to live and entertain, a sound system wired throughout the house and molding…big fat molding, comfortable seating, quiet nooks, a courtyard, and neighbors that create. I have 3 healthy children (both genders represented), a curious funny cat (who sheds minimally), a housetrained yorkshire terrier (with a cute face like an ewok), plants everywhere (that I don’t kill most of the time), laughter (the loud uncontrollable kind), dance (random and without warning), music (loud and constant) and art (big and unbridled). My family actively pursues good relationships with each other and enjoys our time together. We go on local field trips, travel, have movie, game and recipe nights, dates, dress up in costumes just because, serve each other, repair breaks quickly etc.
My family attends a church we adore every week and we all actively participate in varied ministries. I work with the dancers and my husband and I had a heart for the couples ministry, using our experiences to help others. Our children all serve in a way that fits their gifts as well and enjoy doing so. We even tried to talk the dog into being in the manger scene during the Christmas play and he said he’d pray about it.
I sleep 7.5 – 9 hours every night and wake up refreshed. Since my body clock has been consistent since I was a child, I wake up every AM between 7-9AM, do some light exercise, pray, shower and get ready (fully ready), eat a good breakfast while looking out into the morning light and drinking good coffee, then head to my office/creative space to do some w.o.r.k. I run errands in the early afternoons, spend time with family and continue my work in the evenings. I always have a book checked out of the library and pick 1 hobby to study in-depth every 6 months just to perfect it and see if it can become more than just a hobby. I attend conferences like TED and VIDCON just because, and take classes that interest me.
I work for myself doing a little of this and a little more of that. I blog, vlog, paint, create many different items, host, speak at events, take pictures, do hair and whatever else my whim falls on that I can grow in (and monetize). I am Jane of all trades, master of some of them HA! I encounter passionate, creative like-minded people on a regular basis. My day is never the same so I’m always challenged and never bored. My blog is flourishing beyond my wildest dreams. I work with a professional designer and programmer to make sure it looks/works exactly how I want it to and employ intern(s) when necessary to delegate and lighten my load. My YouTube channel continues to grow and gain exposure. It is an outlet for my creativity and my voice, I have never compromised and never will. I earn much more than I ever imagined possible and have a dedicated space to film my videos with good lighting and sound. My workspace is open, personalized, fun, smells good, peaceful and has lots of natural light.
Every two weeks I get a manicure, pedicure and my eyebrows threaded. Every month I get a massage and a facial. Every year my husband and I go on at least one cruise. I have the opposite of debt: a surplus of income that I use to bless others and fund a scholarship for people (young or not so young) who want to pursue creativity in any form. I am fit and active and regularly wear high heels without knee or ankle pain. I am joyous and know how to handle stress in a healthy way. I eat well & prefer to shop at Whole Foods & Trader Joes. I have access to a personal chef –or- a meal program like Nutrisystem or the Zone. I can afford to eat sushi whenever I want to. My friendships are thriving and I make time at least once a year to get all my girls together and to something fun as a group. I am excited when I wake up in the morning to see what that day holds; life is good.
See you tomorrow!
