Wednesday May 11th 2011 ~ Day at Sea
No wake up call this morning *thank you black Jesus* meant I slept loooooooog and I slept hard.
I put the ‘Do Not Disturb’ card on the door before bed the previous night and ordered breakfast room service for a cup of plain yogurt (I’m lactose intolerant and it helps me eat whatever I want during the day). At 9:30ish room service called (because I had a Do Not Disturb sign on my door), brought the yogurt, I put it in the fridge and I got back in the b.e.d. At minutes to 3:00PM hubby smacked me on the butt and said to wake up … #drats . I got up, got dressed and leisurely went to eat at the Windjammer cafe.
We sauntered around the back deck of the ship (very nice covered, semi-covered dining areas back there on Radiance class ships) and generally chilled out and talked. After going back to the room for a sec, we decided to sit in the Centrum listening the the Crown & Anchor (loyalty program) chick end her spiel about upcoming cruise opportunities. After that, back to sitting and reading and chilling out and typing blog post (like I’m doing right now). The plan is to stay here, eventually go get ready for our 9:00PM dinner, then see a few shows , hangout, then sleep. Our tablemates are slated to be at one of the onboard specialty restaurants tonight so we’re gonna ask the maître d if we can switch to another table for 1 night so we don’t sit by ourselves. We’ll see.
After hanging out in the room we ended up heading to dinner late (9:20PM) and surprise surprise, our tablemates were there (they misspoke and had their reservation for the specialty restaurant the following day). We chatted until 11:00PM then went to see a show in the theater, Tango Buenos Aires, with the RCI singers and dancers as well as 2 professional tango dancers that were AMAZING! After the show we bumped into some young couples that we’d met earlier in the cruise (and some we were meeting for the 1st time) and spent the rest of the night into the AM hanging out with them and dancing in the Starquest Club on deck 13.
Thursday May 12th 2011 ~ Day at Sea
Another cruising day *thank God, can you tell I was exhausted*but I did set a wake up call for 11:00 AM trying to be good. I heard it but we still did not get out of bed until 12:00PM. The time on the shipped was pushed back one hour to accommodate the new time zone we were sailing into so we really didn’t get started until 1:00PM relatively. Once awake, Adima tried to go workout but got hung up chatting with people so we ended up going to the Windjammer for a late lunch. We sat on the back of the ship and relaxed again. It is really nice back there.
Adima got his workout in as I read and rested in the semi-covered seating area off the Windjammer cafe. We passed on the Crown & Anchor reception because we didn’t feel like getting dressed in “smart casual” at 5:45 in the afternoon.
The only thing we would really miss are the free drinks and snacks, but there’s enough snacking available on the ship and we have drink coupons so all is well.
Adima decided to get up and go to the reception after all as I slept. He brought back a glass of red wine to take to dinner later. We basically slept the rest of the afternoon and ‘watched TV’ (the TV watched us). Today we knew we’d be at dinner by ourselves so we got up and made our way to the table. Our server did offer for us to temporarily switch tables for the night so we wouldn’t be alone, but we opted not to. Dinner was good as usual, I had pumpkin soup, greek salad, wine, flank steak, mash potatoes, green beans, and sugar-free chocolate ice cream. After dinner we watched the “Finish That Lyric” in the Colony Club (which was fun and too short), and after a brief visit to the Starquest Club, (no dancing for me, I had to reserve my legs for the long walking tours) it was off to bed.
Friday May 13th 2011 ~ Athens, Greece
We got up early again because today we were in <a
href=”http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Athens” target=”_blank”>Athens, Greece! We had our usual breakfast in Windjammer then met our tour and found our bus. Once in Athens we visited the Acropolis and the stadium where the 1st Olympics was held in 1896.
After that we were given 3 hours to roam around a shopping district called La Plaka.
We ate great food at an outdoor cafe (kababs, greek salad, pita with yogurt sauce) and were given shots of a strange liquor who’s name started with M and smelled like perfumed cucumber (potentially Metaxa).
On our way back to the tour bus hubby bought me a dress and belt from one of the shops. Dinner on the ship later that night was great. Afterward we saw the Newlywed show, hung out with a few couples in the Champagne bar, then night night.
