Black Women Healing,  Heal Your Mind

Everything Is Your Fault

you
Monday while listening to Family Life Today (my favorite radio show), I heard Pastor DeWayne Washington say that they tell the members of The Gentlemen’s Society that “everything is their fault”.

My intial reaction was “wow, that’s harsh” but then almost as quickly I thought “but that puts the onus on them to make changes to their situation and not play the victim”.  That basically is what Pastor Washington said was his motivation in telling the boys that very message. Many of them come from a victim-mentality background and The Gentlemen’s Society aims to help them realize, often for the first time, that they own the power to change their world.

But then I got to thinking …

everything is my fault …

EVERYTHING is my fault …

EVERYTHING is MY fault …

EVERYTHING

IS

MY

FAULT.

😐

AAAAAAAAHH!!!!

*whew chile* When I say that sucka hit me upside my head concerning the field I work in and my opinion there of, I would be understating the SMACK I really got.  It’s ringing in my head like a gong. Thanks a lot!

This is defintiely something to chew on indeed.  I own my power in so many other areas of my life, but in that particular area … not so much.  I must do better and “use my gifts and talents to change my situation”

Everything is my fault.

What do ya’ll think?  Chime in!

Until next time Glam Fam I wish you

Hmmmm….I think it’s a bit harsh. But if you mean to say that the path you’re currently on and where you are today is a direct result of your actions, then I agree. And do you have the power to change the course/path? Of course. Many of us struggle with this daily. The key is to remember that you DO have choices and that whatever you’re doing now isn’t in vain or a waste of time, but you have to take the steps to make the changes you need to get to where you want to be.

    Happy holidays.

I get it but I don’t 100% agree. I can see getting a person to understand that they are responsible for their success or failure. However, not every aspect of our situations can be controlled or manipulated by us alone. But I get it

“not every aspect of our situations can be controlled or manipulated by us alone”

I agree. I was worried that someone may start thinking “I got cancer, it’s my fault” but hopefully the organization take the time to explain the nuance (you’d hope). Thanks for commenting

You must understand the context in which we teach this. You are correct, there are many aspects of life that are outside of your control and therefore focusing your attention on them would be a futile effort. An example would be the fact that it’s raining, of course we can not control this, however, we can control getting an umberella, having a garage etc. Those are aspects of our life that we can have control over. As far as things such as cancer, I just watched my father pass after dealing with cancer for over two years. He could not control the fact that he got cancer, but he did control who he married and the things he did before getting sick. He was such a good man and handled his business so well, it made the last few years of his life much more joyous than others I have seen in this situation. He married a compassionate woman (my mom) and she took very good care of him.
The point is this, take control of the things you can control in life and the list of things you can not control will become much shorter.

I have to 110% agree with this statement. I have a mantra that I use for myself which is very similar. It is: “You have the power to create the life you want. That is if life isn’t going the way you want it to, you have the power to change it. You may not be able to change it right away, but you have the power to change it with consistent small daily steps.
I think so many get caught up in the victim mentally that they forget their own power.
If its to be, its up to me.
