What do you need for a successful thrift shop hop?
- A list of 3 or more thrift stores you’d like to visit
- A sunny beautiful day with nice weather
- A friend who likes to shop as much as you do (preferably one who does not wear your size). Them being a blogger is optional.
- A few American dollars to spend
- A working vehicle and GPS
The plan was simple: hit up as many Goodwill stores as possible and see what we found. First up was the Goodwill Outlet in downtown St. Louis.
The Goodwill Outlet: 3728 Market Street, St. Louis, MO 63110
I arrived 1st … and a fight broke out in front of me as I walked into the building . After the fight was cleared up *shaking my head*, I went in and instantly noticed that everything was in huge blue bins. I looked through them for a sec, but wasn’t feeling rifling through the bins full of clothes, shoes, toys, sheets and everything else. I even noticed that several of the items needed to be cleaned (as in shoes covered with mud in the bin with clothes). Psyche showed up taking pictures of the police cars outside the building . Anyhoo … I don’t think the bins were either of our thing, so she looked around for a sec but neither of us saw much we liked so we left.
Next up was the Goodwill store in Brentwood.
Goodwill Brentwood: 9116 Manchester, Brentwood, MO 63144
The location was small, clean, organized and packed full of items. The coat section was HUGE and we saw several furs, real and imitation, so if that’s your thing head over there and shop till you drop.
After Brentwood was Manchester just past highway 141.
Manchester: 14373 Manchester Road, Manchester, MO 63011
This location (like the one on Highway K) gets the past season items from Target so if you’re ok with getting Target items at discounted prices this is your spot. I also liked that this location was larger so you didn’t feel like the walls were caving in on you like in some of the others. I found the cutest suede coat from Wilsons Leather (pictured below) for $15!! I also saw a few belts I wanted to walk out with but none of them were my size *tear*
Next up … Sunset Hills Goodwill store off Watson.
Sunset Hills: 10125 Watson Road, Sunset Hills, MO 63127
I finally dropped off my donated items at this location. Size-wise this was another small, tidy location, but I was happy to FINALLY see a dress section that riveled the one in O’Fallon where I tend to find cute items every blue moon. Even so, I didn’t find anything worth buying. At this point I had a coat and Psyche had nothing. In her words “You have to make me spend my money” LOL!
Our last stop was the Goodwill store in Chesterfield … well sorta.
We said we were going to the one at 11 Forum Shopping Center by my GPS took me to the one at 14808 West Clayton Road.
Chesterfield: 14808 West Clayton Road, Chesterfield, MO 63017 & jacket I got from Brentwood
Psyche ended up at the right one (11 Forum Shopping Center, Chesterfield, MO 63017) and once we realized we had driven to different stores we decided to call it a wrap on our thrift shop hop for the day. The location I visited (pictured above) was small, clean, and had a few nicer items than the other shops, but by this point I was tired and hungry so I didn’t do too much perusing. I heard the 11 Forum location was bigger, better and had some really nice items so I’ll definitely have to give it a visit soon, maybe in my next thrift shop hop! Psyche said she grabbed some items there so I hope she shares them on her blog soon.
I’m in love with my little leather coat and had so much fun doing this WITH someone since I tend to do mini thrift shop hops on my own when the feeling hits me. I’ll definitely organize another one soon, and invite along my other thrift shop lovers uncommonchick and MotorCityMoxie (although I may have to verify MCM’s size before we go so we don’t end up in a brawl to the death over a dress )
Are you a thrift store shopper? What’s been your favorite find? Do tell.
