Oils & Moisturizers

I got this sample sized product a while ago {can’t remember where} and finally used it a couple months ago while traveling {samples are the best for traveling!}

Jane Carter Solution Nourish & Shine
Jane Carter Solution Nourish & Shine

Product Name:  Jane Carter Solution Nourish & Shine
Price: Free, I had a sample
Website: JaneCarterSolution.com
Claims: ““[C]ompletely melts in your hair and adds amazing shine and never leaves your hair feeling greasy or limp.  Nourish & Shine helps reduce dryness on your scalp and your skin! ”
Would Purchase: Absolutely!

I loved this stuff.  I’m not one to actually purchase moisturizers since I make my own, but this one I would buy if I needed a ready-made one. It left my hair soft and shiny without buildup. The smell was sweet, almost like an artificial tropical fruit scent, and it also worked well on my elbows and body when necessary. Overall it’s a great product and since I believe I have another sample size I’ll definitely be using it again on any upcoming trips.

Read reviews of other Jane Carter Solution products.

Until next time Glam Fam I wish you

A small peak under my sink

Listen, I only have 1 head of hair so why do I have so many blasted products to use on it? .

2012 is shaping up to be VERY different in MANY aspects of my life … and hair is definitely one of them. Last night I was rattling on on The Twitter about not buying any new hair products so I thought I’d share that sentiment here on my bloggity.

Basically the thought is this:

  1. Companies often contact me asking me to try their hair products.
  2. I accept, but then have a difficult time doing so in a timely manner because of life, washing schedule, if I have hair appointments at a salon etc.
  3. Due to that I have no set routine {which I’d love to have because, at this length, it would make wash time less dreadful for me}
  4. My goal is to have a routine & use up the products I have under my sink.

I just finished my bottle of Kinky-Curly Knot Today Leave In Conditioner but don’t see repurchasing at this time because I have a 3/4 full bottle of Sénica Senk Conditioner that my hair loves as a leave in as well a 3/4 bottle full of Nunaat Karite Combing Cream that my hair enjoys and I need to finish. That’s just on the leave in front.

On the shampoo front I’m still working on a bottle of Nunaat Karite Creamy Shampoo, a full bottle of Curls Cleansing Creme (which smells edible and I may save for if I cut my hair off later this year *yes you read that correctly … snip snip*). I think that’s it beyond my old favorite diluted castile soap that I used for years and still have a bunch of.

On the conditioner front I have a little bit of Nunaat Karite Conditioner left and a lotta bit of Nunaat Karite Intensive Mask to go through (which I mix with castor oil and my hair L.O.V.E.S!) and a Costco bottle of Dove conditioner.

Speaking of castor oil, I’m going back to that being my sealant. I used it for years then stopped (ask me why? I dunno). I used it the other day and was like “Why the hecks did I stop using this stuff?!”. It’s heavy but I use a tiny amount and my hair loves it! I’m still gonna use olive oil (I think) but stay tuned for a final on that one. I also still use coconut oil to mix with my shea butter as well as when I’m removing twists and braids for “out” styles.

Lastly I have SEVERAL styling products to try and finish, including Curls Quenched Curls Moisturizer (which my hair doesn’t seem to care for thus far but a more thorough review coming later), Urban Therapy Twisted Sista Curl Spray (which my hair liked the one time I’ve tried it thus far), Urban Therapy Twisted Sista Different Strokes Hair Serum (which I have no clue when I’m gonna get to try), and a 1/2 finished tube of Nunaat Karite Anti-frizz Therma Active that I’ll definitely finish on my or hubby’s hair.

I’m sure there’s more but that’s what’s coming to mind right now. *faint*

Another plan I’ve conjured up is to let other people do the reviews for me … like you the reader. If a company contacts me about a hair product, I could pass the opportunity to try it and review it within a set deadline to the readers in exchange for a written review on this here blog. What you think?

Oh and I’m doing the same thing with my lotions and potions. I have so many Bath and Body Works bottles under my sink it’s ri-flippin-diculous!  Chalk all of this up to another installment of Project More With Less.

What’s your product stash look like? Any plans on what you’re gonna do with all that stuff?

Until next time Glam Fam I wish you

K asks

Q:

"I've been natural a little over a year now! I am having a difficult time keeping my hair moisturized and [I] find that it's not as long as those who have been natural the same period of time as me. Do you have any suggestions???? HELP PLEASE!!!"

A:

It's impossible for me to give a definitive answer but here are my suggestions:

  1. Moisturize from the inside by drinking lots of water during the day. Generally it's recommended to drink half your weight in ounces (i.e. 160lbs/2 = 80oz per day). If you don't like water try adding cucumber or mint or even tea with no sugar.
  2. Moisturize from the outside by using a spray bottle with a leave-in conditioner and a sealant. I try to spray my hair at minimum every other day, focusing on the ends.  My spray bottle currently has about 90% water and 10% leave-in (Sénica Senk or Kinky Curly Knot Today ). After I spray I seal the ends with shea butter and coconut oil mixed (but any light oil will do the trick).

Hope that helps!

Victoria asks

Q:

"It's been 5 weeks since my big chop. I want to know what I need to use on my hair to keep it from drying out."

A:

To keep you hair from drying out I recommend water followed with a product to seal in that water.  I like using a mix of shea butter and coconut oil on my hair, and have done so with great success for many years.  If your hair is short, feel free to wet it every day in the shower but I know that's hard to do during the winter months.  I would recommend getting a spray bottle and spritzing your hair with water every day then adding a little bit of your sealant remembering to focus on your ends.  Currently I have several spray bottles, one with just water, another with water, some oil and some Kinky Kurly Knot Today Leave In Conditioner.

You may also consider "cowashing" or conditioner washing your hair.  Here are some links to help you out:

Now-a-days I hand whip my shea butter and coconut oil sans melting or ice….just pure muscle and will power HA!

Hope that helps!
