I can’t even remember what this style was remnant of
. Might coulda been the twistout from Labor Day, might coulda not #kanyeshrug. At anyrate, this was my hair in early October the day I filmed this outfit of the day (OOTD) video.

Even though I don’t remember if this style is a remnant of this twistout, I’m 70% sure it is. It’s a darn shame knowing that this was a MONTH later
… but I know myself, and sometimes it bees that way. I took a huge hunk out the front and rolled it up into a hump with a little left side lean (for swag #whogoncheckmenotyouboo)

Ain’t nothing some water, shea butter, some bobby pins and a banana clip can’t fix.
Funny story. I do remember that I went to get my nails done that day, and when I walked into the salon the hair stylists all went silent, their eyes got as big as saucers and they just stared at me from their stations. I said “Uh, I’m here for Bernita” and they all dang near audibly exhaled at the same time! What deee hayle?!
You gonna tell me my hair stuck that much fear into their hearts! Whew Jesus!
How do you salvage old twist/braidouts? Ever scared an entire hair salon?
Do tell.

Recently, I was contacted by Dominique-Alexis to introduce herself and her new website, Natural-Hair-Care-Info.com.

After checking out her site I was impressed, so much so that I decided to do a post here on my blog letting you guys know about it. Dominique-Alexis started the website because she was “tired of hearing the horror stories of black woman struggling with their kinky hair”. The objective of Natural-Hair-Care-Info.com is to “show everyone who’ll listen that there is a safer, faster way to care for our hair than painful relaxers and having to wear weaves to cover bald spots.”

Job 1:20
Yes … this verse from the bible sums up my journey to becoming natural.
I know you are asking “What does going natural have to do with Job? Well, it began like this.
On July 19, 2008 my life changed forever. My beloved father passed away after open heart surgery on this day. To say I was devastated is an understatement. I was sick from sorrow. I was lost and incomplete without him. Anyone that knows me knows that my Father was my life. He was everything to me. He was my comforter, my best friend, my first love. I was my daddy’s firstborn and was the definition of a “Daddy’s Girl”. I am not going to go into much detail here about his passing, as this is about my hair, but his death was surely a catalyst of this fulfilling journey. Shortly after the passing of my father, my maternal aunt, who was my pastor at my home church passed away December 9, 2008. She was my spiritual mother and truly an anointed woman of God. She knew when I was hurting, sad, out of the will of God. She had such spiritual insight that she would often call me out of the blue with a word for my soul or to get me back in line. She knew me better than I knew myself sometimes. I had the pleasure of having my father and her marry me in 2004. They were my spiritual covering. So can you imagine the grief and pain that my soul was in when I lost them both in four month time span?
