After writing about Five Things to Do During Your Trip To Tortola, B.V.I., I thought it would only be fitting for me to do a companion post about where I ACTUALLY grew up: St. Thomas, U.S.V.I.

I always get asked what there is to do in the Virgin Islands when traveling there on vacation. Since I was just there, here are five easy must-does when you take your own trip!

1. Have Brunch at Sugar Bay Resort and Spa

Sugar Bay Resort and Spa
The view while we ate at Manor House at Sugar Bay Resort

First off let me admit that I deleted most of the photos for this post by mistake (phone difficulties). Thank God for Foursquare or else I wouldn’t have been able to download the shots I took and uploaded! *whew*. Anyhoo … a couple years ago my mom and I took a few friends out the Sugar Bay for Sunday brunch in the Mangrove Restaurant down near the pool and beach.  It was awesome, so we wanted to take hubby there during out past trip but thought they only did it on Sundays. Turns out we were wrong, and they have brunch daily in the Manor House in the main hotel building!  Definitely call to verify times. The menu included all the typical American-breakfast favorites (which you may really be happy to see because they are hard to come by in the V.I. lol) and of course, incredible views.  More information at SugarBayResortandSpa.com

2. Take a day trip St. John

Trunk Bay, St. John
image: soulofamerica.com

I already spoke about St. John, U.S.V.I. in my post about things to do from the British Virgin Islands … but it warrents mentioning again (can you tell I love St. John?).  Take a ferry from Red Hook or downtown Charlotte Amalie to Cruz Bay, St. John and spend the day taking in all that the island has to offer. There’s Mongoose Junction and Wharfside Village shopping right off the dock, or take a quick taxi ride to Truck Bay Beach. What about heading over to Caneel Bay Resort and having dinner and drinks or better yet spend the night there and make it an overnight trip! More information at VisitUSVI.com/StJohn

3. Spend a Morning at Coral World Ocean Park

Coral World Ocean Park
image: coralworldvi.com

Coral World has been around for eons! When I was growing up it consisted of the white dome-shaped observatory tower pictured above. Now that tower is just one of the expansive displays in the park. You can see sharks, sea turtles, sea lions, sting rays, star fish, and iguanas up close and personal (actually way too up close and personal for the iguanas in my opinion LOL).  Definitely spend a morning or an afternoon leisurely perusing the exhibits and taking in the tranquil views of Coki Point Beach.  More information: CoralWorldVI.com.

4. Shop Till You Drop at Yacht Haven Grand Marina

Moi at Yacht Haven waiting for my
mom to stop shopping *never* LOL

When I was growing up Yacht Haven was a posh marina and resort; I was even a flower girl in a wedding there. Then something happened and it dropped off and became run down. Well recently it has been revived beyond its former glory with upscale shops like Gucci, BCBG Max Azria, and White House Black Market as well as great eateries to choose from (I highly recommend Fat Turtle *yummers*).   To top it off you get views of amazing yachts, the cruise ships docked at Havensight Mall, and downtown Charlotte Amalie. You can’t beat that!  More information at YachtHavenGrande.com.

5. Catch a Show at Reichhold Center for the Arts

Reichhold Center for the Arts

I wish I worked at Riechhold, point blank. When I was growing up I attended many shows and concerts there and also performed there several times with the V.I. School of Dance (you didn’t know that huh?). My high school graduation was also held here.  Every time I go home I go there and just walk around. I love that place; it makes my spirit happy.  It depends on the time of the year but definitely call them up or visit the box office to see what shows they have during your trip, then go! I did this once and ended up seeing a pretty sweet performance by Dance Brazil. More information at ReichholdCenter.com

Bonus {’cause I’m so helpful lOL}

  • Have dinner at XO Bistro. Everything I tasted there was so delicious!
  • Spend a day basking in the sun and waves at Magens Bay Beach: my FAVORITE place on the PLANET.
  • Visit Fort Christian in downtown. I spend many days here as an art student. Many.
  • Take the tram up to Paradise Point and have drinks overlooking downtown. I’ve never been, but you go ’cause I’ve heard it is awesome!

There’s so much more to do on St. Thomas, definitely explore and let me know if you did any of the things on this list!

Until next time Glam Fam I wish you

Pregnancy Week 7

by glamazini on January 30, 2012 in Life,Video

If you don’t know, I’m in a family way. *tee hee*. Here’s my 4th post in this preggo series. Enjoy!

Written November 16, 2011 :::
7 WEEKS 0 DAYS :::

I’m still nausous and have been forced to work from home.   I actually had to give in and tell my boss that I was pregnant on Monday, to explain my subsequent request to work from home more often. He was all good with it, so I’ve been home yesterday and today. The nausea (I refuse to call is “morning sickness” because it’s all day at any time for me) ebbs and flows. One minute I can’t function or even look at food (or look in my pantry or fridge), the next I have a mild craving (yesterday for peanut butter on toast and later a hard boiled egg) and I can eat something. I’m having difficulty forcing myself to eat all day (which is the opposite of me but it’s all par for the course I suppose).

My other prominent symptom is EXTREME SUPER EXHAUSTION BEYOND MY COMPREHENSION.  I barely had any energy as it was managing adrenal fatigue, but now it’s worse … which I thought was impossible.  Sometimes I can barely stand up or walk, and I can sleep for days.  My hubby knows that pre-pregnancy if I took a nap late in the afternoon it would keep me awake most of the night and I’d have trouble sleeping later. Well not so now-a-days. I can literally go to bed at 9PM, wake up at 8AM, go back to sleep until 10AM, fall asleep at 1PM, wake up at 5PM and go right back to bed at 11PM without missing a blink. I’m also finding myself passing out sleeping at a whim (which is funny ’cause hubby does this regularly so now we both wake up like “huh? what happened?!”.)

Anyhoo … my ultrasound for tomorrow is cancelled in lieu of the one next week before Thanksgiving.  I’m still spotting regularly and praying that maybe that’s just how my body does things.  I’ve decided I’m also gonna start making pregnancy vlogs and post them next year when I tell yall so you can get some sort of ‘real time’ stuff beyond this here writing.

Write more when the spirit hits me.

Written November 21, 2011 ::: 7 WEEKS 5 DAYS :::

I just got a phone call from my doctor’s office saying I test positive as a carrier for the sickle cell trait.  Waa.     It makes sense though because I have 1st cousin who suffers from sickle cell. I have my 1st official prenatal doctor visit tomorrow so they will be doing more tests then deciding if they need to also test my hubby.  I also have my 2nd ultrasound today and am still nausous.

Last thing is I read about someone who lost their baby just 3 days ago at 19 weeks!   OMG.  I do my best to injest knowledge while still guarding what negative things I let into my mind so I don’t get anxious and fearful. I’m sad for them, but don’t want to read too much of what happened (nor do I want to look up too much info on sickle cell or high hcg levels right now either). I do all of that if the need actually presents itself.

Written November 21, 2011 ::: 7 WEEKS 6 DAYS :::

I can finally start telling people I’m knocked up!     Hubby and I said my ultrasound and the 8 week mark would be the “start telling folk” point and tomorrow is officially 8 weeks, and I’ve had 2 ultrasounds, both of healthy baby Flickerbug!

I’ve tried everything for my nausea with no avail, even those Sea Bands, so today during my 1st official prenatal visit, my OBGYN wrote me a perscription for Ondansetron4mg, which I took 3 hours ago and am feeling MUCH better THANK GOD!  I may be able to enjoy Thanksgiving yet!

Anyhoo … the only people I’m planning on telling soon are my sister-in-law, brother-in-law, and potentially 2 friends.  Other than that, all is well, my boobs hurt like crazy and I’m looking for cute “baby-related” gifts to put in my parents and brother’s Christmas gifts to surprised them. Exciting huh?!

Pregnancy Week 6

by glamazini on January 25, 2012 in Life

If you don’t know, I’m renting out the guest room. *tee hee*. Here’s my 3rd post in this preggo series. Enjoy!

Written November 14, 2011 :::
6 WEEKS 5 DAYS :::

OMG I’m so nausous!

This “morning” sickness is kicking my tail … worst part is I haven’t told anyone yet so I have to go it alone *waa*. It started really picking up at the 6 week mark (last week Wednesday, November 9th) and has been all day every day since. I walk with unsalted crackers, drink ginger tea, water, and ale all day, try to eat protein (although it’s hard) and am trying to keep my food intake constant so I never have an empty stomach (even harder). On top of that I have negative energy so all I want to do is go to sleep right now (after I potentially throw up). I’m waiting on hubby to let me know if I can tell my boss (way earlier than I’d planned to) and maybe request access to work from home because whew chile.

Oh and concerning the spotting from my last post, my blood tests came back saying my hcg level was 68,000 which apparently is hella high for just going into week 6. Due to my high levels, they decided to forego the 2nd blood test scheduled for this week and do an ultrasound instead, which I had on the 10th. Everything checked out well (and I got to see little Flickerbug for the 1st time ). They have me coming in for another ultrasound at week 8, so right before Thanksgiving on November 23rd. I plan on telling my sister-in-law and brother-in-law by then. I’m still seeing spotting every blue moon so who knows. Guess we’ll see after the next ultrasound.

Pardon me.

Ok, write more when the spirit hits me
