My Life In The Sunshine

Momentum • A Review of April 2012

Last month I did a review of the month of March inspired by HappyBlackWoman.com.  If you missed it you can read it here.

I’m back this month with my review of April 2012.  I’d predicted I would use the word “convergence” to describe this month, but as I look back I believe the word that best captures the month of April 2012 for me would be: MOMENTUM.

mo·men·tum

[moh-men-tuhm]
noun
force or speed of movement; impetus, as of a physical object or course of events: Her career gained momentum after two successful films.

I chose that word because I spent March regrouping and figuring out what was going on with my life, then I spent April, especially the end of the month, really gaining some traction in several areas.

What have I done?

  • I continue meal plan, cook, and stick to a budget quite successfully.
  • I’ve gotten to the bottom of every email inbox, personal message box, etc. etc. Wow huh?
  • I have sent out all giveaway prizes and have none pending unless I personally choose to do so.
  • I have responded to every company that has contacted me/sent me products for review and have nothing pending.
  • I have finished my baby registry and shower guest list and forwarded that information to my friends per their request. *whew*
  • I wrote and submitted two guest posts to other blogs. I will let you all know if/when they post.
  • I have revamped my advertising strategy on this blog and contacted every company that previously inquired and any company who I’ve worked with in the past to promote their product or service.
  • I contacted all aspiring guest authors who previously inquired about guest posting on this blog and am following up now & receiving submissions.
  • I have procured, and been paid for, a small design project.
  • I submitted an application for a video blogger position with another company.
  • I submitted an application for a usability position in the field I previously worked in, without fear of asking for a flexible schedule and other things I would have never requested. Trust me, that is major progress.
  • I secured a legitimate paid blog posting opportunity.
  • I found out that my blog posts are coming up on the first page of Google’s search results for certain topics. Yayness.
  • I began dictating writing pieces that come to me {usually in my sleep} via a old school tape recorder.
  • I did redesigned this blog.
  • I talk to my mom much more.
  • I made an appointment to cut my hair. Yep.
  • I took a cloth diapering class to vet if that is an option I want to pursue, as well as signed up for a childbirth and baby care class with my husband later this month.
  • I’ve started consistently cleaning my floors and dusting {alternatively after I do laundry}.
  • I got a replacement {refurbished *boo*} phone because my phone was toast.
  • I continue to pray and read my Bible every night (with hubby).
Once again I feel amazing coming out the month of April.  I see movement happening in areas that were previously stagnant and ruled by fear.  I’m still nervous and excited, but I continue to write my story on the blank pages day by day.

What I’m hoping to experience in May 2012 is GROWTH.  First off it’s my birthday month, next I’m pregnant so there will be physical growth, and lastly I want to see some growth in my blog numbers, my income, and my offerings.   As usual, stay tuned and we’ll see what happens.
