Being a brand new mom and a brand new breast feeder, I was excited to learn that August 2012 is National Breastfeeding Month!
I’ve been blessed to have much success with breastfeeding my son, he latches well and my milk supply is abundant. I know how important breastfeeding can be. Breast milk is a perfect source of nutrition for my son and it’s proven to protect him and I from many chronic diseases and build a foundation of health for years to come.
I’m also aware that many mothers do not have immediate (or any) success when breastfeeding. Either way, education and support is necessary.
In August 2011 the United States Breastfeeding Committee (USBC) declared August National Breastfeeding Month with the mission of improving the national health by promoting breastfeeding.
We can all support the USBC by participating in their “20 Actions in 20 Days” social media campaign occurring all month long to celebrate National Breastfeeding Month. The campaign will highlight different topics like Donor Milk, Paid Leave, Child Care, Employer Support and more daily.
