I became familiar with Oyin Handmade before there was an Oyin Handmade … let me explain. Many moons ago I used to be a regular on a then, new website called Nappturality. By “regular” I mean I pretty much spent all waking hours logged in and posting there. There are 2 website forums (the way you did it before Facebook etc.) that shaped my life, and Nappturality was one of them. Another regular member was named honeychild. All I remember about her was she was chill, super cool, had great hair, freckles and liked to make all natural products.
Fast forward and honeychild started making products for sale. I remember Greg Juice and thought “what a funny name”. That little company turned into Oyin (“honey” in Yoruba) Handmade, and along with her husband Pierre, founder Jamyla Bennu (honeychild) is now a successful business woman cranking out well known products like the aforementioned Greg Juice, Burnt Sugar Pomade, and Grand Poo Bar.
Imagine my glee when I was scrolling through my Facebook newsfeed and saw a post by Luvvie saying that Oyin Handmade would now being available in Target?! Man, I swear I get proud of folks like I’ve known them my whole life. They don’t know me from Jill (btw if you’re reading this “Hi honeychild, it’s ini from the old Nappturality days”) but I just smiled from ear to ear for like 15 good minutes! Woop woop!
You can find the Oyin Greg Juice Leave-in, Juices & Berries Leave-in, Hair Dew Daily Quenching Lotion, Whipped Pudding All Over Moisture Cream and Burnt Sugar Pomade on Target.com an in over a hundred Target stores throughout the country. Also if you’re into quirky t-shirts, a while back I copped this Black Nerds Unite shirt for my nephew from their parent company ExittheApple.com so check that out as well.
Congratulations to the Bennus and all the HoneyBees at Oyin Handmade. Love to see my people shining.
p.s. Check out Luvvie’s post because she got to attend the Oyin Target launch party, tour their facility and much more good info.
