Lately crochet braids done with Marley hair are all the rage. Marley hair (which I heard hair companies can’t technically call “Marley” hair any longer because Marley family put a stop to that :-/) is typically any synthetic hair sold in bulk or on a weft made to mimic afro textured kinky hair. I’ve done crochet braids with this type of hair twice (and most likely won’t be doing them on myself ever again*), and I’m here to show you several styles I’ve done the crochet braids. Enjoy!
Style 1: Lion Mane
Ok let’s start with just a big ole hair of ferocious looking lion mane Marley hair crochet braids like so:
This was my 1st attempt at Marley hair crochet braids done last year. I’m taking a class so I’ve learned SO MUCH since then. I think I only used 1, max 1.5 bags of hair and this was the result: HUGE HAIR lol.
I eventually layered the lion mane along the bottom to give it shape and ended up with this version:

Style 2: Angled Bob
Truthfully I ended up with this style because I could not get the hair of style #1 to curl and didn’t know what else to do with it. I opted to cut it into this angled bob and loved it. Style 3: Make a Wig
Fast forward to 2015, I decided to try my hand at another crochet style, this time a wig.
This is a great idea if you just want to pop your hair off at night then pop it right back on, curled and all, the next morning. If you want to see a detailed post about how I did this style, the hair I used, and how to video etc. check out this post: How To Make A Crochet/Latch Hook Wig
Style 4: Braid Out
After the wig I went on to do a another set of crochet braids with Marley hair, and this time I did a pretty successful braidout set by dipping in hot water.
If you want to see a detailed post about how I did this style, the hair I used, how I maintained it and more pictures etc. you can do so here: Crochet Braids with Marley Hair (Lord & Cliff Hip Hop Braid Hair). Also here is video where I’m wearing this style. Here is another one.
Style 5: Side Swept
This style was done on the previous braidout above; Basically I pinned the hair to the side and pulled out a few tendrils.

Style 6: Textured Rodset
If you’ve been online in the natural hair community at all this year you’ve seen Marley hair set on rods and dipped in hot water. I decided I couldn’t let a whole head of crochet braids go by without trying it one more time after my failed attempt last year.
My husband had to help me dip the rods into scalding hot water so I didn’t burn myself. The process was harrowing, but the results were very nice:

Style 7: Sleek Rodset
Last up was my last iteration of these ever changing Marley hair crochet braids: sleek curls done with rods and NO HOT WATER. First up if you want to see this marley hair blowdried, then flat ironed watch this video. After that I set them on rods and ended up with this:
Yes, this is the same Marley hair in the above styles. Amazing huh? Unfortunately I don’t have many great shots of these sleek curls separated but, you guessed it, I have video. Hope you enjoyed this post compiling several styles you can rock with your crochet braids done with Marley hair.
