I’m at my dentist a couple weeks ago when he (while cleaning my teeth mind you) declares that he’s one of the artist painting fiberglass birthday cakes for the 250th birthday celebration of St. Louis.
He is such a quirky dude LOL! But seriously, what is he even talking about? It’s February and the city of St. Louis, Missouri is turning 250 years old and I’m finding out from my dentist a few days before the celebration is slated to kick off??
Anyhoo, he went on to tell me a bunch about this epic city-wide celebration that apparently is a secret, then shares the website StL250.org. I go there and am beyond befuddled! Why do I not know about this? *scratches head profusely*
So I’m here to share the knowledge with my local readers just in case, like myself, you are all “what huh? 250 St. Louis why huh what”?
Here ya go:
BE PART OF THE YEARLONG CELEBRATION.
From “grassroots to grand scale,” you can help mark St. Louis’ milestone by joining events throughout the year that range from small neighborhood gatherings to festivals in packed entertainment venues! stl250 serves as the master of ceremonies for the 2014 celebration, and invites the region’s citizens, businesses and institutions to share their stories and commemoration plans! The event calendar is starting to fill up with some pretty interesting stuff, including some of the signature celebration events. Seeing that I’m a closet history buff I’m defnitely gonna have to check some of this out!
