Last night NBC aired the 3rd installment of their live for television shows that they’ve been doing at the end of the year for the past 3 years.
The 1st year was The Sound of Music Live with Carrie Underwood. I’m a huge Judy Garland fan, I love the Sound of Music and have seen the movie and the play. The live TV version was ok.
Last year it was Peter Pan Live and real talk y’all I turned Peter Pan Live off, because Peter Pan Live was bad.
I got all my life, I am still giddy!
I was a little bit worried because I was expecting Mary J. Blige to be a bit flat in her acting as Evillene The Wicked Witch of The West, and she was (yet better than I expected so there’s that), but her singing was AMAZING (as expected). Also Common looked nervous in his first scene as the bouncer at the gate of Emerald City but he eventually got it together later.
Shanice Williams, the girl that played Dorothy was BEYOND SPECTACULAR!!! WHAT WAS THAT PEOPLE?!!!
Everyone was perfection I tell ya. Whoever cast this let me know where I send my check! Mary J. Blige as Evillene, Common as the Bouncer, Queen Latifah in the title role as The Wiz, Amber Riley as Addaperle, Elijah Kelley as The Scarecrow, Shanice Williams as Dorothy, Ne-Yo as The Tin Man, David Alan Grier as The Cowardly Lion, Stephanie Mills as Auntie Em and Uzo Aduba as Glinda The Good!
It was beyond anything I thought I was preppin to see on my television and it was the best live show NBC has aired hands down no compitition. I smell Emmys everywhere. The makeup, the hair, the costumes … LORD THE COSTUMES!!!! The camera work, the stage, the direction, the cast, the music, the sound, EVERYBODY GETTIN AN EMMY!!!
It made me feel giddy, inspired, proud, weepy, like singing, like dancing , happy, represented, lifted, encouraged, and nostalgic. I lived chile, I lived.
