Hola ya’ll! Hope all is well.
I found out about this particular diet a few months ago while watching the author, Hollywood nutritionist Haylie Pomroy, on the Dr.Oz show. I don’t remember much from that segment beyond you eat different foods in phases and can lose a lot of weight. Of course I was intrigued. I put the book on reserve at my local library, and forgot about it. Several weeks later I received an email notifying me that the book was available so I picked it up from the library and easily read the entire thing in just a few days. I was so pumped while reading the book that the weightloss became a secondary goal, and feeling better and regulating my system became my primary goal. I absolutely love Haylie’s writing style and how she explains concepts in a down-to-earth way that you can finally understand. I was in love with this book as evidenced by my bevy of yellow tabs so I could reference it often. It was that serious ha!
Here is very simplified summary of the diet from inside the front cover:
Haylie Pomroy has helped thousands of clients lose up to twenty pounds in just four weeks — all through the fat-burning power of food. Hailed as the “metabolism whisperer” Haylie reminds us that food is not the enemy but medicine needed to rev up your sluggish, broken-down metabolism to turn your body into a fat-burning furnace.
On this plan you’re going to eat a lot — three full meals and at least two snacks a day — and you’re still going to lose weight. What you’re not going to do is count a single calorie or fat gram, or go carb-free or ban entire food groups. Instead, you’re going to rotate what you eat throughout each week according to a simple and proven plan carefully designed to induce precise physiological changes that will set your metabolism on fire.
Phase 1 (Monday – Tuesday): Lots of carbs and fruit
Phase 2 (Wednesday – Thursday): Lots of proteins and veggies
Phase 3 (Friday – Sunday): All of the above, plus healthy fats and oils
By keeping your metabolism guessing in this specific and deliberate way, you’ll get it working faster. This isn’t just a theory, it’s a results-based product of Haylie Pomroy’s successful programs. It has worked for celebrities, for atheletes, and for people with chronic illnesses who need to lose weight, doctor’s orders. Now it’s going to work for you.
In four weeks you’ll not only see the weight fall off, but don’t be surprised to find you cholesterol drop, blood sugar stabilize, energy increase, sleep improved and stress melt away as well.
Complete with four weeks of meal plans and more than fifty recipes — including vegetarian, organic, and gluten-free options — this is the silver bullet for the chronic dieter who has tried every fad diet and failed, for the first-time dieter attempting to kick his or here metabolism into gear, and for anyone who wants to naturally and safely eat his or her way to a skinny, healthy self.
After I read the library copy of the book I promptly told all my friends about it and one friend purchased the book and started the diet that very week! She even purchased a copy for me and is currently on Day 3 Phase 2 of Week 4 and 14lbs lighter. As of today I have 3 additional friends doing the diet, all on Day 3 Phase 2 Week 1. When this posts I will be on Day 2 Phase 1 of Week 2. Haylie outlines many ways to do the plan in her book. I chose to just choose from the recipes she provided, make a meal map for the week and pre-cook and freeze my meals. It has been working out super well for me, although I’m not a huge fan of all the upfront cooking that had to happen last week. I also have learned via the forums on her website (and from just noticing things myself) that there are an EXORBITANT amount of typos in the recipes included in the book! That is frustrating, but if you want to see what the correct recipes should be click HERE, or try Pinterest or even her cook book
for other ideas (or come up with your own).
Here is my experience with Week 1:
Started on Tuesday July 2nd at 204.2 lbs (hangs head in shame) and 123.25 inches* with a goal of 15-20lbs weightloss and more energy.
Phase 1 (Tuesday & Wednesday): Healthy Carbs
- Liked the food
- Lost weight
- Felt “weird”
- Attended a Zumba class
Phase 2 (Thursday & Friday): Healthy Protein and Vegatables
- Ok on the food
- Lost weight
- Felt GREAT!
- Did p90x Ab Ripper DVD, and lifted free weights at home
Phase 3 (Saturday, Sunday & Monday): Healthy Fats
- LOVED the food
- Did not lose weight
- Lost inches
- Felt super sluggish
- Had a massage as well as spent several intentional times sitting on my deck doing nothing or spacing out.
So far so good on the beginning of Week 2. I definitely feel much better and have my energy back. I realize now that Phase 1 is my favorite phase because I love mangoes lol #simplereasons. I’ll be back in upcoming weeks to share more of my experience with The Fast Metabolism Diet.
