Day 4 ~ Royal Caribbean Intl. Mariner of the Seas ~ 7 Night Mexican Riviera

Yes I’m late, don’t judge me!

I have a perfectly good explanation for why this post did not go out this AM as planned. You didn’t hear it from me but it has something to do with Mr. Glamazini  …and that’s all I’m saying about that!

Ehem … where were we?

::::::

This is post number 4 in a week long series documenting hubby and my 4th anniversary cruise to the Mexican Riviera on Royal Caribbean Internationals Mariner of the Seas!

Note #1:
These posts were mostly written while I was on the ship so read it from that perspective.  Let’s go!

Day 4 (today) we were in Mazatlan.

We got brave and booked a tour with Mazatlan Tours, a company not affiliated with Royal Caribbean, for the first time ever! We were nervous, but I had read great reviews online so we took the leap of faith and booked the Stone Island Tour.

After eating our room service breakfast, we were dressed and off the ship as soon as it docked. The time in Mazatlan was 1 hour later than the ship time so most people made it down in time but 2 couples did not, and we ended up waiting for them. BOO!   This is my only complaint about the Mazatlan Tours tour. Everything else was great, and we are so happy we did it this way because we paid less than if we’d went with the RCI tour to Stone Island and we got the more!

After we got off the ship we were taken through the “picturesque” Mazatlan dock to the terminal by “free & compulsory” trolley.

Once we got through the terminal

we were immediately met by a tour representative from Mazatlan Tours with our names on a whiteboard.  We, and others, waited on the late couples for a long while then finally left the outdoor waiting area and took a small covered truck (“safari” for Virgin Islanders) over to another small boat dock. There we checked in and got our boarding passes for the ferry, tickets for lunch, and 2 activity passes each for when we arrived at the beach.

Note #13:

The RCI tour does not include activities, you must pay extra.  Also, we literally were next to the RCI tour on the beach…literally.

Once we boarded our ferry, they served soda (no alcohol) as we began our tour of the bay.  The bay tour was great and relaxing!  It started out with an informative look at the coastline narrated by our tour guide

listened to music, took pictures and just had a generally nice time.

After an hour, we were dropped off at Stone Island (across from the cruise ship) and taken to the beach on the other side of the island by tractor pull

(not the most glamorous transportation, but it did what it had to do ).  When we first landed at the dock (plank) some guys tried to get me to take a photo with iguanas on my head. HELL NAW!!!!

The beach was so-so but at least I wasn’t in Missouri .  As I’ve said, I’m sort of a snob about these things being from the Virgin Islands, but it wasn’t just me: hubby called the sand color “dirty blond” . This man is getting REAL bougie about his beaches after 4 years of marriage to me!

It (the sand) was also very fine which translates to dusty when dry and water-clouding when wet.  The positives were that the sand was not rocky or filled with anything on the beach or in the water so when you stepped it was like walking on powder, which is GREAT!  No hopping over coral, sticks, twigs, stones and crabs for you on Stone Island beach.
At any rate, we grabbed a locker for $5,

a couple drinks (alcoholic) for $0 (they were included), and did the banana boat which was super fun!  I wanted to do it again!  WOOP!  After that we chilled in the water for a second then had the best lunch!

THAT CHICKEN was sooooooooo gooooooood!

YEAH LAWD!
Funny story: One of the tour dudes came to pick up my plate and I still had 1 bite of chicken left on 1 bone.  I snapped at him “I’M NOT DONE!” then grabbed the chicken and gnawed on it like the chupacabra itself with a wild look in my eyes that said “touch my plate small mexican man and you die!” .  I was SERIOUS about that chicken; I may’ve even growled at him!
After lunch we relaxed; hubby rode a horse on the beach (also included)

and I wrote and chilled out.

The vendors on the beach were “assertive” but not aggressive like in Cabo and we had a great time. I never did use my 2nd activity ticket, maybe I should’ve given it to one of the RCI tour people next to us LOL!

Note #14:

Half the time we were there, this was our view:

a truck   MOVE DAGNABIT!

Note #15:

The sand was H.O.T!

Note #16:

Did I mention there was an open bar included?

After returning on the tractor, then the ferry, then the small truck we were at the cruise dock in 15 minutes top (just a lot of methods to get us there LOL).

Note #17:

Although I didn’t think the actually Stone Island beach was that great, I
highly recommend this tour if your objective is the visit Stone Island beach. We paid 1/2 the price of the cruise ship sponsored tour and got more stuff.  It was relaxing and I spent a lot of time basking in the abundance of nothing to do.

Now I’m typing in the internet cafe (again) after a 2 hour nap…and I need to go wake dude up ’cause dinner is in 1/2 hour.

Edited to add (I found more in my notebook):
After a great dinner as usual we head to Boleros for music before the show but the Hot Sands (reggae/soca) band was on their last song
Next we went to the Savoy theater for the Love & Marriage game show and it as a blast as usual.  They’ve changed a few things since we were on it 4 years ago. Finally we head down to the Dragon’s Lair club again hoping to catch a couple dances compliments of Celebrity DJ Kova but no luck since she seems to be more fond of music you can jump to than music you can actually dance too .  BOO!
Back in the room we ordered room service for the next AM, got our things ready and went to bed.

See you tomorrow for Day 5 (yes tomorrow, I’m gonna post that one on time like none of this delay stuff even happened)!

p.s. OMG!!! Oprah just gave away a cruise on Allure of the Seas on her favorite things show!!   YEAH LAWD!!!
