Day 6 ~ Royal Caribbean Intl. Mariner of the Seas ~ 7 Night Mexican Riviera

This is post number 6 in a week long series documenting hubby and my 4th anniversary cruise to the Mexican Riviera on Royal Caribbean Internationals Mariner of the Seas!

Note #19:
As mentioned at the end of the last (Day 5) post, my discounted internet cafe minutes had ran out by then so I gave up on typing up the posts on the ship. I tried to do it with pen and paper on Day 5 but it took too long and since I was on vacation I knew you all would understand.  So, today’s post is written now (on 11/20) from memory (and the Cruise Compass).  Let’s go!

Day 6 was a day at sea cruising so leisurely was the word.   I slept LATE and when I finally did come out of hibernation Adima a.k.a. “the overachiever” had already left me a note saying he went to the gym and to get something to eat.  I got up, got dressed, wrote “Food” on the same note and left the room for the Windjammer buffet.  After brunch I went to sit out on the pool deck and ended up watching the bartenders show off some tricks!

Finally I went back down to the room and found hubby getting ready.  I put on my swimsuit and head straight back up to the pool deck hoping to get in the hot tub one last time. I say “one last time” because the weather was much cooler than I prefer the entire cruise (I’m from the Caribbean so I wanted at least 10-15 degrees hotter at all times) and I knew that we were on our way back to CA so today, midday, was the LAST time I would even dare be on the pool deck in a swimsuit .  Adima chose not to swim so we both went up, he sat in the lounge chair while I dipped in the hot tub for 15-20 minutes then I got out and “sunned” next to him like until I dried off catching my last little hope of heat.  Waa.

Honestly the rest of the afternoon was pretty full of an abundance of nothing . We hung out in the room, talked, I passed out in the library, walked around, watched drunk & sober men belly flop into the pool etc. There was an ice show at 2:45PM that we tried to attend but it was full when we arrived so we made sure to catch the one at 5PM instead.  The show, Ice Under The Big Top, was nice as always.  It still amazes me that they are able to ice skate on a moving ship!

My favorite part was with the clowns (which I didn’t get a photo of ’cause I was too busy being all into it, sorry )!

I’ve seen a lot of ice shows on RCI Voyager class ships but I’ve never seen so many falls as this show. It was actually scary after while , especially since we were sitting on the front row.  I would say 5-6 people fell and one skater even had blood running down her elbow at one point. YIKES!

After the ice show we caught the last 15 minutes of dancing with the Hott Sands reggae/soca band at Boleros then got ready for the last formal night dinner and pre-dinner show.

The pre-dinner show was beautiful to look at

but boring so we left.

Note #20:
We did here from our (older) tablemates later that the big band style of the show was very appealing to them so if you’re older maybe the show was the bomb diggity but not to us.

Dinner was great as usual.  We talked into the wee hours of the night and our table shut the dining room down as usual. The waiters were all cleaning up when we left.

I haven’t even mentioned that I ate steak EVERY night on the cruise !  I tried not to, but it was the only thing I wanted. The first night I had it just ‘cause, but every other night it really was what I wanted.  One night I ordered some chicken, to the shock of my waiter, but when it came it was covered in cilantro. I hate cilantro so it was back to steak for me…literally…every. night.

After dinner we ran over to watch The Quest Game Show which we never miss, it’s one of our favorites!  We made sure to sit in the back in an effort to remain fully clothed (unlike other cruises ) but still ended up participating by running up and down the stairs.  I won’t give anything away to those who have never sailed RCI but even when you know what’s gonna happen is so much fun!  I still have a photo of a random chick on my camera because of that darn Quest:

LOL!!

After The Quest we went to the Dragon’s Lair club once more hopeful but let down by DJ Kova .  We did grab a couple dances to Ludacris but then I went to the bathroom and when I returned she was playing The Jackson 5. Boo.  We did make a few friends though: most notably a drunk blond who came straight over to us from the dance floor to explain that “the DJ was annoying her ’cause she could shake her boobs but not her butt”, then soon after a drunk cowboy with a tattoo of a Jack Daniels bottle on his arm who petitioned us to dance then, when we refused, spent a few minutes sneaking up on a candy wrapper on the floor in front of us.  Good times.  We also befriend a sane lady sitting next to me who could not stop laughing at the previously mentioned drunk blond and was like “do you know her?!

We finally gave up and went to bed, not really looking forward to our last day on board the Mariner (Day 7).

Until then *weep*
