Healing Is Not My Purpose. – Moving Beyond the Healing Journey: Embracing Joy and Worthiness

Have you ever grown weary of constantly being on a healing journey?

Let’s dive into a topic that has been on my mind – the transition to a new stage of healing. As we navigate our paths to wholeness, we must recognize when we’re moving from the intensive healing phase to a more maintenance-oriented space.

If you’re unfamiliar with the concept of a healing journey, I previously discussed it in this video. It’s a process of self-discovery and transformation, addressing emotional, generational, and personal growth that, for me, resulted in consuming and producing content to heal myself and help others.

I recently had an enlightening conversation with my husband about entering a new phase of my healing journey. It dawned on me that I’ve been unsubscribing from mental health and healing channels that were once a cornerstone of my journey. I found myself skipping videos that I would have previously absorbed and analyzed. This shift in behavior signaled a transition from the “fixing” stage to the “maintaining” stage.

Comparing the healing journey to medical treatment stages can be illuminating. Just as in healthcare, there’s an emergency room phase where we focus solely on the issue. Then comes the ICU, where concentrated care continues, followed by a stage of healing when we move from intensive care to a more regular hospital room. Similarly, our healing journeys evolve from addressing urgent concerns to maintaining our growth.

Orienting Around Joy and Worthiness

One significant realization in this transition is the need to shift our orientation. Instead of constantly orienting around pain and fixing, we should aim to orient around joy, worthiness, and positive experiences. Healing should not become our sole purpose – life is filled with diverse experiences and pleasures.

Many of us on the healing journey are naturally inclined to fix things, including ourselves. However, there comes a time when we should transform this fixation from external to internal. We’ve grown beyond the need to constantly prove our worth through fixing others and should focus on valuing ourselves.

Just as recovery leads to discharge from the hospital, our healing journey also moves us to a maintenance stage. We’re no longer hyper-focused on fixing; we can apply what we’ve learned to maintain our progress. We’re ready to reintegrate into life, using our newfound understanding and growth.

As we embark on this new stage, remember that we are enough. It’s time to find a balance between focusing on healing and embracing joy. We can make room for self-care, healthy relationships, and new experiences while acknowledging our worthiness. The journey is ongoing, but the approach has shifted, reminding us that healing isn’t our sole purpose; living fully is.
